about

This is my 5th song of the RPM challenge although it's the first song in Feb that I actually wrote. It has taken me a couple of weeks to record it the way I wanted and now days to get the mix correct. It's a deeply personal song and I hope if you have lost a loved one to death or an illness like dementia or alzheimer's that you can relate. I wrote the song on my Kala Archtop ukulele. I used my Apogee Jam to record the Uke into Auria. Then I used my Blue Yeti USB mic with the usb to lightning adaptor. My son says it's an oxymoron to write a sad song on a ukulele but somehow I managed to do this. I then used Auria with audiobus to record the synth parts. I used a lot of different synths: I used Artic Pro for this thermini kind of sound. Crystal synth for a swirly sound, as well as for the sad strings. I used iLectric for the chorus electric piano part. Sampletank for the Bass, Drum Jam for the freestyle jam I did in homage to my mom's conga playing last July. I used my Korg microkeys 25 to record all those parts except for Drum Jam where I used the pad on the screen. I used a variety of plug ins: Vintage Warmer, Convulution Reverb, PianoVerb, Overloud for the Ukulele, and I really delved deep into the Pro Q Filter in Auria for the Vocals. They gave me the MOST trouble as far as the way they sounded in the mix. The Pro Q helped me get the sound I wanted and I'm pretty happy with them now. I hope you like this song. Thanks for listening.
